A famous retro look for women is the polka dot vintage dress. The dress will have a tight-upper half that accentuates the bust and hour-glass figure while the bottom usually flows down and outwards.

The most common retro look for women include wiggle dresses, wrap dresses, pencil skirts, empire lined dresses, full skirt dresses, pea coats, hosiery from the forties and fifties and vintage swimwear. Retro is normally categorized into these three categories: pin-up, rockabilly and sixties chic.

Pin-up retro styles are generally based off of the the 1940s, most likely during Word War II for the fact that pin-up girls were a brief escape for soldiers. Rockabilly is named after the unique genre of music in the fifties called rockabilly. While, sixties chic is pretty self-explanatory. The 1960s was a time for straighter and boxer styles of clothing, gogo dancers and funky shapes and patterns.

The fifties was also known for it’s pompadours and ponytails and bandanas. The 1960s has a decade of daring and stiff hair styles. The most famous and well known being the bouffant and the beehive.
