Vintage Stores

Vintage stores typically sell clothing that is a minimum of 25 years old. While clothing often makes a fashion statement for a period of time and then goes out of style once it is replaced by something else, the trend often comes around a decade or two later, making a statement as “vintage” or “retro.” Some vintage styles that have stuck around are now known as pin up, rockabilly or retro, with significant looks that stand out and have become timeless pieces.

Vintage stores don’t all sell primarily clothes that have been preserved and worn throughout the years. Vintage stores often create vintage inspired pieces, taking trends, patterns and styles from eras past, and using it to create new styles, sometimes with a modern twist. For example, Modcloth, one of the most popular vintage stores on the Internet, uses dress patterns, home decor inspiration, fabric styles and colors drawn from previous eras to create dresses that appear vintage, but often have a modern touch to them and are of higher quality than a dress that is 25-30 years old.
